Growing Update

February 21,2012

Blueberries - Our 5 varieties of pesticide-free blueberries (Climax, Premier, Brightwell, Tifblue and Powerblue) are dormant right now collecting chill hours. However, with all this warm winter weather we're having, the blossoms are starting to open. Hopefully, we won't have an Easter freeze this year as we have had in the past.

Blackberries - Our pesticide-free blackberry plants (Arapaho, Navaho, Apache, Ouachita, Natchez, Choctaw and Kiowa) are mostly dormant right now collecting chill hours, but are also starting to wake up due to the warm winter weather we're having this year.

Muscadine -  Our 8 varieties of pesticide-free muscadine and scuppernongs (Sugargate (Black), Ison (Black), Black Beauty (Black), Pam (Bronze), Darlene (Bronze), Florida Fry (Bronze), Granny Val (Bronze) and Sweet Jenny (Bronze)) are also dormant right now collecting chill hours.

We are also growing Peaches, Nectarines, Persimmons, Plums, Plumcots and Pomegranates along with hydroponic Vegetables and Tomatoes using Hydro-Stacker technology. However, these crops are in various stages of development and will only be sold at our fruitstand when in season. Here is the status of their growth:
  • (New) Hydroponic Vegetables (Tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, bell and banana peppers, beans, cucumbers and eggplants): Season runs from the end of May through October. We grow a variety of vegetables depending on the season.
  • Peaches: Season runs from the end of May through August. We have 16 varieties of trees which range from 3-6 years old.
  • Nectarines: Season runs from end of May through June. We have 5 different varieties of trees which range from 3-5 years old.
  • Plums: Season runs from the end of May through June. We have 4 varieties of trees (Methley, Santa Rosa, AU Producer and AU Rubrum) which range from 1-4 years old.
  • Plumcots: Season runs from the end of May through June. We have 1 variety of tree (Black Satin) which ranges from 1-4 years old.
  • (New) Pomegranates: Season runs from September through October. We have 1 variety of bush (Russian #8) which we just planted in Nov 2009 so we won't have any available for sale for a few more years.
